Music is an age-old conduit for healing. When we listen to music we enjoy, it resonates deeply within―sparking a heightened sense of wellbeing, vibrant energy, and joyfulness. Our problems and worries seem to fade away, transforming our mood from gloom to delight. Whatever musical genre you enjoy—classical, rock, country, gospel, jazz or R&B—when you listen to it, it can help lift your spirits. Whether you’re feeling anxious or having a bad day, a well-timed tune can soothe and revive you. One minute you’re feeling hopeless, and the next you’re filled with optimism.
Experiment with different types of music to find which music resonates with you in certain situations. You may find that classical piano nocturnes help you relax or set a romantic tone, while boogie-woogie brings you out of the doldrums. While working you might find jazz to be energizing, or country music may stir your passion.
Gradually build your personal music collection to include selections for all occasions. Try embellishing your personal wellness by integrating music with rhythmic movement (some people call this dancing!). Doing so will allow you to engage in exercise and stretching while you enjoy your favorite melodies―also a fun way to improve agility and balance.
